Universal Basic Income – Solution or Devil in disguise?

On the surface, UBI sounds super appealing:"Everyone gets a set amount of money each month, no matter what. No stress about survival. More freedom to choose work you love instead of work you hate. Poverty, homelessness, and financial anxiety? Handled."

From a soul level, the idea taps into something beautiful — that every human being is worthy just because they exist. No conditions. No constant grind to "prove" your worth. It’s like society recognizing your divine right to be supported simply because you are. That’s powerful.

But now, the other side... the "Devil in disguise" angle: It’s possible UBI could also be used as a way to control. If everyone depends on a centralized system for their survival, whoever controls that system holds enormous power. What happens if:

  • Access to your UBI gets tied to your behavior, your beliefs, your medical choices, your compliance?

  • UBI replaces meaningful jobs, slowly stripping away skills, ambition, and self-sufficiency?

  • It creates a society where people feel comfortable enough not to revolt, but disconnected enough to be passive?

In other words:

  • It could empower souls to be freer and more creative.

  • Or it could lull people into quiet obedience while the deeper systems of power get even stronger.

Spiritually speaking, UBI challenges two polar forces:

  • The force of true freedom (thriving because you’re supported)

  • The force of dependency (surviving because you're allowed to)

It’s not inherently good or evil. It’s about how it’s designed, who controls it, and whether people stay awake to their sovereignty or give it away for comfort.

In the end, UBI could either be a tool for liberation or a tool for enslavement — depending on consciousness, leadership, and the collective choices we make.

I’ve liked the idea of UBI for many years given the incessant mantra to grow the economy to keep creating jobs so people can make a living seems unsustainable and fails to encourage worthwhile endeavours harder to monetise. I wish it was discussed more and trailed more still.
